Our Organization and Mission: The Office represents the State of Florida in state and federal civil and criminal courts, from trial courts to the Supreme Court of the United States. 

 

Position Summary: This position is in the Office of the Attorney General within Civil Litigation Unit in Tallahassee, Florida.

 

Pay: $75,704.98 Annually

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and membership of the Florida Bar.
  • Applicants who are law school graduates but not current members of the Florida Bar and third year law students can be considered; however, proof of the Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor and approval to sit for the Florida bar exam must be provided prior to the date of employment.
  • Any employment offer would be contingent upon admission to the bar within 12 months of the date of employment.

 

The Work You Will Do: The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • This position works under the direct supervision of a chief or an assistant attorney general.
  • Research and draft motions, answers, replies, interrogatories, memoranda, briefs, opinions, orders and other miscellaneous pleadings and documents.
  • Attend trials, hearings and appellate oral arguments in court.
  • Perform investigations and all aspects of discovery.
  • Maintain current expertise in areas of practice, including reading recent judicial decisions and case summaries and attending continuing legal education and other professional seminars.
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to handle large case load with minimal supervision essential.
  • Extensive travel required. Visits to various Florida prisons and contact with inmates necessary.

 

Preference given to candidates with membership in the Florida Bar. Demonstrated interest in prisoner civil rights litigation and trial practice desirable.
