The Role
We are excited to offer a unique opportunity for a diverse group of talented students to join the internship program at Schonfeld. Over the course of ten weeks, you’ll become an integral part of our Security Operations group within the Schonfeld Technology division. You’ll be immersed in Schonfeld’s collaborative culture, working alongside cybersecurity professionals on impactful, real-world projects addressing today’s most pressing threats.
The Cybersecurity Department at Schonfeld is dedicated to safeguarding the firm’s data, assets, and reputation from both internal and external threats, while securely enabling the business to innovate and grow in an increasingly complex threat landscape. The Cybersecurity Operations Team – a subcomponent of Cybersecurity - is on the front lines of proactive defense. We are focused on detecting, preventing, and responding to a rapidly evolving array of cyber threats—including ransomware, phishing campaigns, supply chain attacks, insider threats, and advanced persistent threats (APTs). The team leverages cutting-edge technologies, threat intelligence, and automation to minimize risk, mitigate vulnerabilities, and ensure the resilience of Schonfeld’s infrastructure.
What You’ll Do
As an intern, you will:
- Collaborate with the Cybersecurity Operations team on tasks such as incident response, threat intelligence, vulnerability management, penetration testing, and threat hunting.
- Contribute to projects focused on cloud security, identity protection, and securing hybrid environments, with exposure to the latest tools and methodologies (e.g., EDR/XDR, SOAR, and Zero Trust principles).
- Participate in monitoring and analyzing security events, investigating suspicious activity, and helping to remediate real incidents.
- Assist in red team/blue team exercises and tabletop simulations to improve Schonfeld’s readiness against emerging threats.
You’ll receive support from a dedicated manager and mentor, participate in team-building events, lunch-and-learns, social activities, and network with senior management.
Summer-long projects will be directly related to the team’s work, culminating in a presentation to leadership.
No prior finance experience required—just a passion for technology, curiosity about cybersecurity, and a drive to solve complex problems in a high-stakes environment.
What You’ll Bring
- A junior pursuing a degree in an Information Systems/Information Technology/Cybersecurity field.
- Someone who has demonstrated strong interest in the cybersecurity space through previous internships, part time jobs, extracurricular activities and/or classes.
- High levels of creativity and quick problem-solving capabilities
- Strong interest in taking ownership of tasks/projects
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
