Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Full Time Senior Communications Assistant!

As a Senior Communications Assistant you will answer incoming calls to the main list numbers for each Sentara hospital and processes each call appropriately. Answers emergent phone lines to activate emergency alerts by making overhead announcements, sending group pages and tracking the response of emergency teams as necessary. Answers internal calls from staff and fulfills requests such as contacting physicians through various paging methods per on call schedules. Provides excellent customer services with each interaction while performing within set standards. Can perform all work with minimal supervision, acts as a liaison between other Communication Assistants and the Management Team. Possesses basic trouble shooting skills for technical systems utilized within the department.

At least three (3) years previous experience as a Communications Assistant at Sentara Healthcare required. Understanding of basic medical terminology as related to the Communications Assistant position. Basic knowledge of computer technology including the ability to type proficiently. Ability to speak distinctly.

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is the region’s first Magnet Hospital.   It is a 525-bed medical center, and home to the area's only Level I Trauma Center, Burn Trauma Unit and Nationally Ranked Heart Program.
