Description

Overview
Since 1970, the Billy Rose Theatre Division has preserved live theatrical productions and documented the creative contributions of distinguished artists and legendary figures of the theatre. With the consent and cooperation of the theatrical unions and each production's artistic collaborators, the Theatre Division produces video recordings of Broadway, Off-Broadway, and regional theatre productions as well as dialogues between notable theatre personalities. These recordings have revolutionized theatre research, ensuring that today's performances will be tomorrow's legacy, available to future generations for study and inspiration.In 2024, the Division opened the new Harvey Fierstein Theatre Lab–a flexible rehearsal, performance, and study space equipped with the ability to screen archival recordings.   The Billy Rose Theatre Division is seeking a Library Technical Assistant III to provide excellent customer service for the more than 7,000 users who visit its active Lucille Lortel screening room each year and to support the work of the new Harvey Fierstein Theatre Lab

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to a Librarian III in the Theatre Division, the LTA III will:
  • Provide public service in Lucille Lortell screening room
  • Schedule viewing appointments and maintains screening schedules 
  • Answer telephone and e-mail inquiries
  • Manage viewing request forms and special permissions  
  • Assist and instruct the public in searching Library catalogs and other reference sources
  • Ensure compliance with viewing policies, in accordance with the division’s union and guild agreements
  • Supervise users of the Harvey Fierstein Theatre Lab to ensure all policies are followed.
  • Perform related duties as required

Required Education, Experience & Skills

Required Education & Certifications
  • High School Diploma
Required Experience
  • Relevant experience in a research library or similar institution
  • Experience working with the public in a highly restricted moving image archive 
Required Skills
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft word, Excel, and online research tools  
  • Successfully demonstrated ability to work well under pressure  
  • Successfully demonstrated public service experience, including public reference and instruction services
  • Ability to work tactfully and effectively with staff and public at all levels in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
