About the role

Position Summary:

Under the general direction of the Facilities/Utilities Business Unit Manager, the Utilities Supervisor provides all maintenance support for Utilities area(s) of the Austin and Round Rock Plants by organizing and coordinating the activities of multi-craft maintenance employees.  Assess and assist in developing technical training curriculum for maintenance employees. Ensures establishment and execution of preventive, planned and emergency repair systems.  Optimizes equipment availability through effective maintenance. The Utilities Supervisor will perform budget reviews such as spare parts spending/approval, OT spending, and other Department spending at the direction of the Utilities Manager. Manage multiple contracts with outside vendors to provide services for pre-treatment chemistry of water supply, cooling towers and wastewater. Interface with City, and State regulatory agencies in respect to wastewater and permitting. Organize and coordinate agricultural agreement for cattle on 76 acres of ranch land. Organize, and coordinate scheduling of De-ionized, Purified water and Water for Injection systems sanitization and USP compliance.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Hire, train, evaluate and develop Utility Mechanics and Technician personnel.
  • Direct maintenance activities of all shifts, 24-7 operation. 
  • Primary facilitator for control of costs and ability to satisfy annual utilities service requirements by shifts.
  • Ensure optimal performance and reliability of equipment. Control maintenance costs within the Utilities business group.
  • Ensure compliance to regulatory requirements including cGMPs. SOPs, Policies, and procedures.
  • Promotes safety consciousness, enforces safety rules, establishes an orderly work area in the maintenance shops and makes routine safety audits.
  • Coordinate programs/projects with Plant Engineering and all other appropriate functional departments within the plant.  Provide resources for implementing key business unit projects.
  • Identify opportunities for equipment performance improvement, develops alternate solutions to potential problems and develops and implements resolution plans.
  • Performs spare parts inventory/usage evaluations to optimize inventories and costs.
  • Coordinate deliveries of Caustic, Acid, CO2 and Nitrogen.
  • Manage water treatment Chemical contract with outside vendor. Audit services of contract.
  • Manage and coordinate agricultural agreement for cattle on 76 acres of ranch land. 
  • Organize and coordinate scheduling of De-ionized, Purified water and Water for Injection systems sanitization and USP compliance.
  • Organize and coordinate Annual boiler re-certification and permitting.
  • Organize and coordinate Annual Factory Mutual re-certification.
  • Assess and assist in developing technical training curriculum for maintenance employees. 
  • Direct Building and Grounds Specialist and Servicers in absence of Technical Unit Manager
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications:

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of / Experience with Boiler operations and Maintenance
  • Knowledge of / Experience with compressed air generation 
  • Knowledge of / Experience with Reverse Osmosis
  • Knowledge of / Experience with Water for Injection – desirable
  • Knowledge of USP- Water Standards
  • Knowledge of Drinking water Standards
  • Knowledge of / Experience with Water / Waste Water Treatment 
  • Knowledge of / Experience of Chill Water Systems

 

Education and Experience: 

Required:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Engineering Degree with 5– 7 years Maintenance Supervision experience 
  • Bachelor’s Degree (other than Engineering) with 7-10 years Maintenance Supervision Experience
  • In lieu of a degree, 10 years of experience in a related and applicable role 

 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment: 

  • Work in an office, manufacturing areas, and utilities/boiler room environment. 
  • 50% office setting
  • 50% working in areas that can reach greater than 100°F.
  • Climbing ladders, kneeling and squatting.
  • Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time
