Do you want to work on high-impact projects that contribute to sustainable development globally? Business Sweden are now looking for a Sustainability Advisor to join our Strategic Projects Office (SPO) in Stockholm. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to Business Sweden’s growing Trade & Development (T&D) portfolio, which focuses on sustainable export promotion and development cooperation in Official Development Assistance (ODA)-eligible countries. You will collaborate with leading Swedish companies and international partners and be part of a dynamic and expanding team shaping the future of Trade & Development.

Business Sweden’s purpose is to help Swedish companies grow global sales and international companies invest and expand in Sweden. We operate in over 40 markets worldwide and work closely with the Swedish government, industry, and Team Sweden partners to drive sustainable and inclusive trade.

As Sustainability Advisor, you will play a central role in integrating sustainability and responsible business conduct into strategic projects. You will work at the intersection of international development and business, combining analytical expertise with practical advisory and coordination responsibilities. The role offers international exposure, impact-driven work, and the opportunity to shape a dynamic and expanding area of Business Sweden’s operations. The Sustainability Advisor will have a close collaboration with the Head of International Sustainable Business and the Global Sustainability Team, but also with the Head of Trade and Investment Facilitation.

Key Responsibilities

Sustainability Advisory & Risk Management

  • Integrate sustainability and responsible business conduct into T&D strategic projects.
  • Develop and implement ESG risk and impact assessment frameworks and tools.
  • Advise project teams on ESG risks, due diligence, and development impact in low- and middle-income countries.

Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Coordinate Business Sweden’s Regional Sustainability Centres and ensure strategic alignment.
  • Facilitate collaboration with Team Sweden and international organisations on sustainability risks and development impact.
  • Represent Business Sweden in stakeholder dialogues, working groups, and public events.’

Helpdesk for Responsible Business Conduct

  • Lead and develop the Helpdesk for Responsible Business Conduct (RBC).
  • Respond to inquiries and provide guidance on sustainability frameworks (e.g. OECD Guidelines, UN Guiding Principles).
  • Organise webinars, trainings, and knowledge-sharing sessions.

Knowledge Development & Reporting

  • Contribute to internal sustainability risk frameworks and reporting of KPIs.
  • Monitor trends, regulations, and best practices in sustainability and responsible business conduct.

The position will be based in Stockholm and your manager is Head of Strategic Projects which is a part of Region Sweden, but you will work with our teams and clients around the world. We apply probationary employment in all applicable positions.

Formal requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, International Development, Business, Economics, or related field (Master’s degree is meriting).
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in sustainability, responsible business conduct, or international development.
  • Experience with ESG risk assessment, sustainability impact analysis, and responsible business frameworks.
  • Experience working with Swedish companies and international trade, preferably in a consultancy setting.
  • Strong understanding of international sustainability standards (OECD, UN, EU); knowledge of IFC Performance Standards is meriting.
