Job Description Summary

1. Renders direct and indirect patient care for breastfeeding couplets (mothers and babies) in support of medical care and in accordance with established standards of care, as well as policies and procedures of the Southeast Alabama Medical Center 2. Collaborates with the nursing staff in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care activities for the breastfeeding couplet. 3. Promotes teamwork in collaboration with nursing staff, physicians, other departments, and facilities for the benefit of the breastfeeding couplet. 4. Promotes breastfeeding beyond the first few weeks of life and assists the breastfeeding couplet reach their own goals for breastfeeding. 5. Serves as a resource person for breastfeeding couplets, nursing staff, physicians, other departments or disciplines, and facilities involving issues related to lactation. 6. Facilitates follow-up services for breastfeeding couplets after discharge for as long as the breastfeeding relationship continues.


Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current registration as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alabama. May be a graduate of an accredited program of study in dietetics with current licensure in the State of Alabama. Current registration as a practitioner in the State of Florida, and in the State of Georgia (additional registrations may be completed within 90 days of employment or effective date of transfer. Current clinical certification in some area of lactation, or progress toward same. At least five (5) years experience working with childbearing families.

Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field.

LANGUAGE/ COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Must be able to read, write, and speak English

SKILLS:

Successful course completion in Neonatal Resuscitation Program Successful course completion in Basic Cardiac Life Support Successful course completion of institutional Intermediate EKG Course. Completion of at least one of the following competency areas

  • Labor and Delivery

Successful course completion in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Fetal Monitoring Interpretation Skills (after completion of educational requirements)

Fetal Spiral Electrode placement (after completion of educational requirements) Maternal Transports

  • Intensive Care Nursery

Neonatal Stabilization Neonatal Transports Neonatal Intubation (after completion of educational requirements)

  • Pediatrics

Pediatric stabilization Pediatric Transports
