Overview:
The Quality Assurance Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking qualified applicants with Nuclear Quality experience. The Quality Representative will work with internal and external customers and other quality professionals to provide nuclear quality assurance engineering support for the development of quality management systems, project/process improvements, strategic planning and performance metrics, and other quality-related initiatives to support nuclear operations. This position will support nuclear and/or radioactive programs and project work that focuses on supplying independent quality assurance support and guidance for implementation of NQA-1 quality requirements. The position encompasses a wide range of quality oversight, review, verification and validation of internal and external systems, items, and components.

The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge of NQA-1, possess the initiative to be a self-starter in day-to-day activities, and be willing to do some minimal travel. They should also have experience with handling assessments and audits of facilities and operations. A Lead NQA-1 Auditor would be preferable.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Provide quality assurance support for safe and compliant operations to NQA-1 quality requirements and the implementation of a graded approach.

Assist in the development of fabrication and inspection plans and establishment of quality hold points, including documentation associated with component and experiment fabrication.

Review procurement specifications, design drawings and specifications, fabrication procedures, maintenance work packages, and other documents for incorporation of appropriate quality controls.

Provide supplier oversight and inspection of fabricated items and assemblies to ensure conformance with established performance criteria, including NQA-1.

Attend Factory Acceptance testing of fabricated equipment to ensure it is tested in accordance with NQA-1 requirements and will perform in accordance with engineering specifications.

Provide quality tools for various tasks, projects, procurements, work evolutions; provides assessments of work in progress, including document reviews against specifications.

Plan and perform assessments to evaluate the health of the overall quality program, as requested.

Review actions associated with assessment findings and opportunities for improvement to ensure objective evidence is sufficient to support closure.

Identify and/or solve problems, assessing needs to achieve desired business results.

Develop project plans, checklists, procedures, and guidance for efficient and effective deployment of management systems and organizations supported.

Operate and communicate effectively and efficiently with all levels of management on quality issues.

Perform supplier evaluations and serve as Lead NQA-1 auditor as needed (travel may be required).

Approve receipt inspections and Commercial Grade Dedications and help with the CGD process when requested. Also review and approve the paperwork for receipt inspection plans and CGD’s.

Assist in implementation of nonconformance processing.
