Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a para-professional position responsible for providing various functions in the WIC Certificaion process for the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). This position primarily serves Jackson County, but floats to any clinic site within the agency when necessary. All work is carried out under the supervision of a Senior Public Health Nutritionist. The employee in this position is required to work under the direction of the professional staff. The employee will be cross trained and expected to foster teamwork and assist staff when clinic staffing is short. The employee is responsible for good communication of all program issues with their supervisor and the WIC Coordinator. The employee will be required to satisfactorily complete the State of Florida Nutrition Training Series. The employee must be able to work with all clients in a fair and impartial manner. Compliance with all standards associated with this position is required, along with adherance to security, integerity and confidentiality regulations, policies and procedures related to information under the direct control of this position. The incumbent of this position will come to work and exhibit an attitude of friendliness and eager customer service towards all participants and act respectfully and courteously to fellow employees and program participants.
Independently screens client family income and demographic information. Appropriately initiates certification for the WIC Program utilizing the FL-WiSE System. Works with potential clients in a confidential and compassionate way to assure all possibilities of eligibility detemination are complete before determining applicant as ineligible. Independently reviews client eligibility process for completion and issues WIC benefits, EBT Cards and VOC/ID cards as appropriate. Advises and instructs WIC participants regarding benefit redemption, food purchase procedures and rules and regulations of the WIC Program. Informs WIC Participants when certification expires and reviews eligability determination requirements for recertification. Records documentation in the FL-WiSE System to communicate participant needs. Manages EBT card stock, returned/re-issued formula and related inventories. Provides second nutrition education contacts for low-risk WIC participants based on newsletter and lesson plan.Correctly schedules participant certification and issuance appointments using the FL-WiSE Appointment System. Answers WIC clerical office phones and answers participant questions, provides requested services via phone if appropriate, or routes call to nutrition staff if needed.
Conducts outreach activities (e.g. appointment reminder telephone calls, missed appointment telephone calls and mail outs, to provide current and potential clients information about the WIC program as directed. Participates in nutrition program activities in the community as needed. When needed, will assist Sr.PHN with Outreach Activities. Properly recieves all supplies as they are delivered according to established protocol. Distributes all supplies as directed. Monitors supplies and educational materials assuring smooth service provision and inventory control.
Completes assigned duties in a timely manner according to agency protocol. Attends meetings, trainings, and performs other duties as required. Complies with all rules and regulations in the employee handbook. Completes timesheet and EAR’s as directed.
