Job Overview
We are looking for a highly motivated Research Technician who is available immediately, though review of applications is ongoing until this position is filled.
The overall goal of the research team is to determine the mechanism of action of the STAG2 tumor suppressor gene in human cancer. Most experiments include molecular biology techniques and tissue culture techniques.
The Research Technician receives a dedicated mentorship and opportunities for scientific and professional growth. As well, the D.C, Maryland, Virginia triangle offers an outstanding scientific environment with a perfect blend of vibrant city life, great neighborhoods, and several excellent school districts.
The Research Technician assists the Principal Investigator (PI) on a daily basis to carry out experiments for ongoing projects and provides assistance with general laboratory maintenance.
Research Areas
- Understanding the role of tumor suppressor genes (specifically STAG2) in cancer pathogenesis
- Understanding the role of the cohesin complex in cell biology
The Research Technician has duties that include but are not limited to:
- Performs collecting, analyzing, and reporting data to PI
- Performs aseptic techniques for cell culture (cancer cell lines)
- Performs routine laboratory maintenance and research activities as assigned
- Conducts biochemical and molecular assays - e.g., Western blotting, qPCR, RNA extraction, plasmid extraction)
- Orders and stocks common lab supplies
- Adheres to and enforces lab safety techniques

Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or a related field
- At least 12 months’ experience in a lab setting
- Familiarity with molecular biology and tissue culture techniques
- Possession of training - or willingness to be trained - in occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials, and/or ionizing radiation
