The Laboratory of Soledad Benitez Ponce seeks an experienced and motivated Visiting Scholar to work in the Department of Plant Pathology at The Ohio State University. The Visiting Scholar will perform standard laboratory and field techniques using plant and other material. The successful candidate will have significant experience with microbiology and plant research and also molecular biology and biochemical techniques. This position also requires maintenance of lab equipment, maintenance of the lab environment and daily lab operations including cleanup and organization, coordination of undergraduate and graduate student schedules, attends lab meetings, microscopy training and ensures laboratory safety compliance is required and other miscellaneous duties. Importantly, the Visiting Scholar must work closely with the Principal Investigator to develop research goals for multiple independent projects, to design and implement experiments, place these findings in the broader context of the literature, and generate key preliminary data for grants. Maintaining accurate, detailed notes and the preparation of research progress reports will also be essential. Maintains current standard operating protocols; properly disposes of chemical waste; works with Assistant Professor to update the lab's chemical hygiene plan and biological safety protocol. Works with PI to update the lab's chemical hygiene plan and biological safety protocol and calendar and meeting scheduling.
