Protective is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Reinsurance Accountant (General Accounting Analyst ) to join the Asset Protection Division (APD) Reinsurance team. This role supports the accounting, financial reporting, tax compliance, and regulatory filing activities for a portfolio of reinsurance companies. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, thrives on managing multiple deadlines, and is eager to develop expertise in accounting, tax, and financial reporting. This fully remote position offers extensive training and the opportunity to work closely with internal business partners, shareholders, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and analyze quarterly, semi-annual, and annual financial statements for approximately 50 reinsurance companies.
  • Record and analyze accounting activity including cash transactions, accruals, reconciliations, investments, and other financial transactions.
  • Prepare and analyze tax returns and supporting schedules for assigned reinsurance entities.
  • Complete tax-related filings, elections, correspondence, payments, and analyses, including specialized reporting requirements.
  • Prepare domicile and licensing-related regulatory filings.
  • Partner with Distribution and Client Wealth teams to evaluate company performance and prepare shareholder financial reviews.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for shareholders, assigned companies, dealerships, and internal business partners.
  • Gather, organize, and maintain documentation necessary to support financial statements, tax returns, and regulatory filings.
  • Respond to financial, accounting, and reporting inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other accounting-related software applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of accounting, finance, financial analysis, or program analysis experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience interpreting financial data and performing account reconciliations.
  • Understanding of GAAP and financial reporting practices.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of accounting experience.
  • Previous tax preparation, tax accounting, or tax compliance experience.
  • Experience supporting financial reporting, regulatory filings, or insurance/reinsurance accounting activities.
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience working with multiple legal entities and complex financial reporting environments.
