About the role

The Team:

The Principal Policy and Program Advisor role sits within Healthy Communities in the Department of Health, supporting statewide health equity initiatives and strategic frameworks for priority population groups. The team operates in a collaborative environment, working across the health system to:

  • Provide leadership and specialist advice on health equity and priority populations, guiding staff and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Coordinate and oversee statewide projects and programs, ensuring planning, implementation, and evaluation align with strategic priorities.
  • Engage with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, non-government organisations, and community service providers, to deliver integrated and equitable outcomes.
  • Drive quality improvement and innovation, strengthening population health outcomes and fostering cross-team collaboration.

This team is part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary group committed to improving health outcomes and reducing inequities across the state. They value collaboration, evidence-based decision-making and continuous improvement.

The Role:

  • Provide high level leadership, strategic advice and management of allocated operational outputs of Healthy Communities.
  • Provide professional support and management to staff in Healthy Communities.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate projects, programs and policies as required.

You will need to:

  • Provide high level leadership and support to Healthy Communities staff and other Department of Health staff on health equity and the needs of priority population groups.
  • Provide strategic direction and coordinate the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of statewide projects, programs, policy and strategic frameworks relevant to targeted priority population groups.
  • Provide specialist and strategic advice in relation to health equity and the needs of priority population groups to senior management, other government departments and other health and community service providers.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 19 October 2026.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $128,102 to $134,832 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
