Metro State University, a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, is seeking to hire an Assistant Professor in Cybersecurity. This is a fulltime probationary (tenure-track) position within the Department of Computer Science and Cybersecurity and will start on August 18, 2025.
Responsibilities
Faculty members are expected to:
- Demonstrate the ability to teach Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence (AI) courses effectively to a post-traditional student population and contribute to meaningful assessment of student learning.
- Engage in scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research.
- Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study.
- Contribute to student growth and development through advising and assistance.
- Engage in service to the university and community.
- Demonstrate a commitment to serving a diverse student body by delivering a student-centered education and using approaches that support equitable outcomes for all students.
- Provide excellent learning environments through in-person, online, and/or hybrid course modalities.
Minimum Qualifications
- A minimum of a master’s degree in the specified discipline(s), with enrollment in a doctoral program for fields in which the doctoral degree is the terminal degree. Doctoral program must be successfully completed within 5 years to meet the requirement for tenure.
- Demonstrated interest in faculty position that prioritizes teaching and emphasizes teaching excellence.
- A plan for scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research in the specified discipline(s), or related disciplines.
- Effective communication skills (written & verbal) to communicate with a variety of persons and groups.
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with students and colleagues who are culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse.
- Specific Technical, Computer, and/or Software skills (as needed).
Preferred Qualification
- An earned PhD. in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a closely related field. Candidates who will finish their PhD. before August 15, 2025, will be considered.
- Demonstrated ability to teach variety of undergraduate courses in Cybersecurity and AI, such as Malware Analysis and Reverse Engineering, Secure Software Design, AI Fundamentals, Machine Learning Fundamentals, AI for Security Assessments, Offensive/Defensive Applications of AI, and Adversarial Learning.
- Ability and willingness to teach one or more graduate level courses such as Malware Analysis and Reverse Engineering, Secure Programming/Scripting, Cloud and IoT Security, Industrial Control Systems/SCADA Security, Cellular and Wireless Security, Risk Management of AI, and Securing the AI Lifecycle.
- Ability to develop and start a successful applied research program in cutting edge areas of cybersecurity, cyber operations, and AI.
- Demonstrated effectiveness teaching at a post-secondary level.
- Experience developing course curricula at a post-secondary institution.
- Demonstrated contributions to assessment of student learning at a post-secondary institution.
- Professional development and/or expertise in culturally responsive pedagogy, anti-racist pedagogy, and/or universal design.
- Experience as an academic advisor for students at post-secondary institution.
