About the role

POSITION: SECOND SHIFT MAINTENANCE MECHANIC I
REPORTS TO: MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR
NORMAL WORK AREA: ALL BUILDINGS
SCHEDULE OF WORK: MONDAY – FRIDAY 3:00PM – 11:30PM

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The ability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 lbs.
  • The ability to sit, stand, walk or work in confined spaces for extended periods of time.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Active Florida driver's license (or the ability to obtain one within 30 days).
  • Ability to pass a background check and MVR screen in order to meet university insurance policy requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, including the use of university-provided email account.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
1. General maintenance skills.
2. Five years of apartment/institutional maintenance experience.

TRAINING TIME:
1. 90 Days to learn the details of the job.
2. One year to perform all job-related duties with minimum supervision.

DUTIES AND OTHER JOB-RELATED ACTIVITIES

1. GENERAL:

a. Repair/replace lights, switches, receptacles, windows, glass, handles, doors, door
locks, door closers, hinges, faucets, shower valves, drains, toilets, urinals,
furniture, sheet rock, door jambs, water heaters – gas and electric, etc.
b. Ability to troubleshoot HVAC, and restaurant equipment. Replacing small motors
or caps to restore service to the students as quickly as possible.
c. Aid the Maintenance Supervisor, and other maintenance mechanics in removing
and/or repairing air conditioners and other various tasks related to the
maintenance areas.
d. Provide proper reports of events that occurred during and after the shift to the
Maintenance Supervisor and team.
e. Prioritize your work requests and complete them in a timely manner.
f. Perform any task required by the Maintenance Supervisor.

2. SPECIFIC:

a. Provide information to the Maintenance Supervisor related to equipment needs, cleaning, sealing, caulking, and painting of buildings – interior/exterior.

b. Ability to coordinate and communicate with outside contractors and oversee projects in the specific areas of responsibility.

c. Carry the call phone Monday – Thursday weekly

d. Have specific information on all buildings across campus. Oversee all emergencies that occur during the shift with minimal supervision.

e. Ability to coordinate several projects and contractors across campus. Providing access and supervision in students' spaces after hours.

f. Ability to prioritize emergency responses across campus throughout the shift, completing the necessary reports for the Maintenance Supervisor.

g. Perform a campus safety inspection weekly and report it to the Maintenance Supervisor.

h. Ability to drive golf cart throughout campus to transport tools and equipment for performance of duties.
