Hybrid position based out of the Maine, NY office. 
Coverage mainly Chenango and Otsego counties, with a small portion of Herkimer and Oneida

Job Summary:

The Membership Manager is a strategic leader and frontline community connector for GSNYPENN, responsible for growing and retaining youth and adult membership by expanding access, participation options, and delivering a superior volunteer experience. This role focuses on reaching non-member families, strengthening current member satisfaction, and creating flexible, inclusive Girl Scout experiences to meet families where they are. MM’s drive both recruitment and engagement strategies across multiple service units while coaching and supporting volunteers to lead vibrant, sustainable Girl Scout communities.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Membership Growth & Recruitment

Design and implement targeted recruitment strategies that reflect the diverse needs of families across assigned areas.
Lead school- and community-based recruitment initiatives, including open houses, info sessions, and tabling events.
Serve as a visible and enthusiastic ambassador for Girl Scouts in the community.
Cultivate and maintain partnerships with schools, cultural groups, and community organizations to drive membership growth.
Expand flexible participation models such as themed short-term series, monthly drop-in troops, and after-school clubs.

Member Engagement & Experience

Serve as the primary point of contact and support for families and volunteers in assigned service units.
Ensure new members experience a smooth onboarding process, from joining to active participation.
Implement consistent communication strategies (e.g., newsletters, outreach campaigns, social media) to keep members informed and engaged.
Monitor and assess participation trends and member satisfaction; adapt strategies as needed.

Volunteer Support & Leadership Development

Provide comprehensive volunteer support, including onboarding, training, coaching, and leadership development.
Plan and host volunteer appreciation events, mixers, and networking opportunities.
Coach volunteers to conduct local recruitment, build strong service unit-troop environments, mentor leaders, manage conflict, and support member retention efforts.
Champion equity and inclusion by ensuring volunteers have the tools to serve all communities effectively.

 

 

 

Collaboration & Strategic Alignment

Collaborate cross-functionally with program, product, and marketing teams to implement council-wide initiatives.
Maintain accurate membership records and metrics to track progress toward council goals.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to deadlines, priorities, and quality.
Participate in and help lead council initiatives, GSUSA programs, and special projects.

Qualifications
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; culturally competent and community-focused.
Experience in volunteer coordination, youth development, or nonprofit membership development preferred.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Demonstrated success in building partnerships and executing community outreach.
Flexible schedule, including availability for frequent evening and weekend events.
Proficient in technology platforms (CRM, communication tools, virtual meetings).

Software: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), Salesforce, vendor-specific platforms, bulk email software, inventory and retail systems

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle or feel, push/pull, reach, climb, stoop, crouch, bend, kneel, drive, and perform repetitive hand/wrist motions
Close mental and visual attention required for preparing and analyzing data, using a computer, and reading

Physical Exertion:

Exerts up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects
