The University of Iowa Health Care presents an opportunity for an experienced nurse leader to join our team. We are seeking a full time Assistant Nurse Manager for the Orthopedics, Trauma, Spine (3RC). The Assistant Nurse Manager interfaces with the administrative and clinical nursing staff to provide leadership in improving and maintaining the delivery of care processes for a specific unit and/or patient populations.  The Assistant Nurse Manager assumes delegated responsibility for implementation of daily operations for specific units and/or patient populations.

In this role, the Assistant Nurse Manager will assist in delivering safe, quality, patient-centered care in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager. The Assistant Nurse Manager will support members of the nursing team by providing patient care up to 50% of hours worked.  Tasks outside of patient care include but are not limited to, assisting with staff onboarding/education, ELMS scheduling/payroll, completing audits, coaching/accountability discussions, and shared on-call.

• Traumas/Orthopedic Injuries (motor vehicle accidents, fractures, skeletal traction, etc.) 
• Reconstructive joint surgery (hip, knee, shoulder)
• Osteosarcoma removal and reconstruction
• Spine surgery
• Hand surgery
• Foot and Ankle surgery
• Amputations
• Sports injuries
• Young adult hip preservation procedures

Responsibilities: 

• Participates in the assessment and evaluation of nursing care requirements for the patient population
• Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of standards of care for a patient population, which are consistent with current nursing practice and the condition and age of the patients
• Assesses patient care to ensure that patient assignment system reflects patient care needs and staff capabilities
• Monitors and contributes to individual patient care and discharge planning activities carried out by unit staff nurses
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members and implements care planning activities for specific group of patients
• Serves as a role model for staff by demonstrating clinical expertise when providing direct patient care
• Serves as a resource for patient care problems
