About the role
The Category Manager – Indirect/Corporate is responsible for end-to-end ownership of indirect categories that support corporate functions. This role defines category strategies and drives execution for indirect goods and services, including IT, Professional Services, Travel, Workplace, and Marketing & Communications. This role leads supplier selection, contract negotiation, supplier and category management activities, ensuring the organization achieves high-quality services at a competitive cost while maintaining strong supplier partnerships.
This role partners closely with cross-functional stakeholders (IT, HR, Finance, Legal, Facilities, and Marketing) to translate business needs into effective sourcing strategies, establish preferred supplier networks, drive cost efficiency, and implement scalable purchasing pathways. The Category Manager plays a critical role in building a disciplined, standardized procurement function that supports rapid company growth and ERP-enabled procurement processes.
Responsibilities
Category Strategy & Planning
- Own and continuously evolve category strategies for assigned indirect spend areas
- Analyze spend, demand patterns, and supply markets to identify cost optimization and value creation opportunities
- Define preferred supplier strategies, including use of GPOs, strategic suppliers, and marketplace channels
Sourcing & Execution
- Lead end-to-end sourcing activities including RFPs, RFQs, supplier evaluations, and selection
- Negotiate commercial terms, pricing structures, and contracts to achieve best value outcomes
- Execute sourcing strategies through contracting, onboarding, and implementation with stakeholders
Stakeholder Partnership
- Serve as the primary procurement partner to functional leaders (IT, HR, Finance, Legal, Facilities, Marketing)
- Translate business requirements into sourcing strategies and supplier solutions
- Influence stakeholders toward standardized purchasing pathways and preferred supplier usage
Supplier & Contract Management
- Establish and manage supplier relationships, performance metrics, and governance routines
- Drive supplier consolidation and performance improvement initiatives
- Partner with Legal and Finance to develop and manage contracts, MSAs, and commercial frameworks
Procurement Operations & Process Enablement
- Define and implement purchasing pathways (GPO, direct suppliers, Amazon Business, ERP punchout catalogs)
- Ensure compliance with procurement policies, controls, and approval processes
- Maintain accurate supplier, contract, and purchasing data within procurement systems
Continuous Improvement & Scalability
- Identify opportunities to improve procurement efficiency, reduce cycle times, and enhance user experience
- Enable catalog-based and guided buying capabilities
Contribute to the development of procurement standards, templates, and best practices
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field or relevant experience considered
- 7+ years of experience in supply chain, procurement, materials coordination, or logistics within energy, construction, industrial, or manufacturing environments.
- 5+ years of experience in procurement, sourcing, or category management for indirect spend
- Demonstrated experience owning end-to-end sourcing from strategy through execution
- Strong negotiation and supplier management experience across multiple indirect categories
- Familiarity with procurement processes including purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and vendor coordination.
- Experience tracking material orders, delivery timelines, and resolving supply or delivery issues.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work cross-functionally with corporate stakeholders
- Experience using ERP or procurement systems for purchasing and order tracking.
