EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
- Education
High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience
5 years experience in a medical office environment
Exposure and working knowledge of physician billing, medical collections, coding, surgery scheduling and/or patient access
- Education
2 years of college
- Experience
2 years of healthcare scheduling and/or surgery scheduling
JOB DUTIES
- Independently schedules complex patient surgical procedures at various entities and coordinates across multiple providers and locations (Hospitals, Ambulatory Surgery Centers and other UTSW affiliated clinical locations) in accordance with established protocols; acquires the appropriate information and orders from the surgeon.
- Provides pre-certification of all complex, advanced or high acuity procedures to ensure coverage and proper billing procedures; and/or may obtain insurance pre-certification from the referring physician's office and contacts insurance carriers for confirmation; advises clinic and/or patient on co-payment or co-insurance responsibility.
- Oversees and troubleshoots complex authorization issues; ensures all high-level cases are fully approved.
- May be responsible for accurately entering scheduling, insurance and registration information into the appropriate system(s).
- Maintains and monitors surgical block time to keep utilization at a high standard; advises surgeon of unused time and releases the unused time to prevent loss of department's surgical block time. Leads interdisciplinary coordination and resolve schedule conflicts.
- Manages complex patient communications and resolve escalated concerns.
- Leads continuous process improvement efforts. Implements new scheduling strategies.
- Assists in onboarding peers. Communicating effectively with peers and leadership. Serves as a point of escalation for scheduling-related matters.
