Position Summary:
The Sales & Event Manager will be responsible for generating new business and growing existing accounts within the SMERF market segment. From prospecting and booking through to detailed event execution, this role bridges both sales and service, ensuring each group enjoys a seamless and memorable experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Actively solicit new group business and cultivate existing accounts within the SMERF market segment through prospecting, networking and strategic outreach.
- Manage the full event cycle: qualify leads, prepare proposals, conduct site tours, negotiate contracts and detail group logistics.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for SMERF clients from booking through post-event follow-up.
- Collaborate with internal departments (culinary, operations, rooms, spa, etc.) to ensure flawless execution and elevated guest service.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the CRM system, including client correspondence, contracts, BEOs and rooming lists.
- Represent The Essex Resort and Spa at relevant industry events, networking functions, and trade shows to build relationships and drive business.
- Meet or exceed individual and team sales goals while adhering to budgetary guidelines and resort standards.
- Continuously monitor trends in the SMERF market to develop proactive strategies for capturing new business opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with all hotel policies, procedures, and brand standards.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in hotel sales, catering, or event management; prior experience with SMERF markets strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to close sales and manage multiple events from concept to completion.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency with sales and catering software.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends based on event needs.
- Team-oriented mindset with a passion for hospitality and guest experience.
