Assistant Vice President, Acoustics and Vibrations Engineering

This Opportunity
WSP USA, Inc. (WSP) is looking for an environmental/transportation/community noise and vibration specialist to assist with our growing national and international practice and lead a local noise and vibration practice in Minnesota. Be involved in projects with our Planning and Environmental Planning Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. A working knowledge of how transportation, infrastructure, and construction noise and vibration is generated, propagates, and can be measured and modeled is necessary. An understanding of architectural building acoustics is a plus. The position requires a familiarity with Federal, State and local municipal noise regulations, particularly as they are applicable to highway (FHWA), rail transit (FRA/FTA), and private siting study projects.
This position is expected to serve as a technical expert, staff mentor and trusted client advisor. This position will report to our Minneapolis, MN office and work closely with WSP's planning, environmental planning, transit, rail, engineering, and other staff in WSP offices across the Midwest and United States.
Your Impact
- 10+ Years of experience in acoustics, environmental engineering, transportation systems, or equivalent specific coursework.
- The successful candidate will have worked on projects similar to those described above or possess similar skillsets obtained from education or training.
- A basis understanding of the physics of acoustics and definitions used in the industry.
- Previous experience with sound and vibration measurement instrumentation and a willingness to use them in the field is a plus.
- Experience with the FHWA’s Traffic Noise Model (TNM) and FTA/FRA’s rail transit noise and vibration models is required. Experience with the Cadna-A noise models is a plus.
- Experience with MicroStation and/or GIS programs is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with the development and preparation of technical studies/reports is a plus.
- Previous project management of acoustical projects/tasks involving other staff and meeting project deliverable schedules is a plus.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Acoustics, Engineering, Environmental Science, Meteorology, Physics, or related field is required.
- Ability/willingness to work in the field to collect noise and vibration data during daytime and/or nighttime periods.
- The candidate must be able to work under supervision both independently and within a team. The ability to lead a team is a plus.
- Good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are necessary.
- The ability to communicate with clients and staff, plus excellent writing skills are required. The successful candidate may be requested to provide prior samples.
- Ability to work in the United States, and possession of a valid driver’s license is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree is preferred.
- Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
