3D Motion Director (Seattle)

COLOR needs an experienced creative + technical 3D Motion Director to help us take our 3D team, work, and processes to the next level. As part of the creative leadership team, the 3D Motion Director reports to the Head of Creative and fulfills key responsibilities in three areas: Team management, project execution, and creative leadership. This role is based in the Greater Puget Sound Area (Bellevue, WA).
Salary range: $105,000 - $130,000 per year
What You'll Do
- Team management
- Lead a small but incredible team of 3D artists
- Manage the team’s career growth, developing their skillsets and knowledge while maintaining morale
- Hire and train new team members
- Vet and interface with a pool of freelance talent
- Oversee team and freelancer workloads to help Resourcing shift schedules as needed
- Match team members to projects based on skillset and project complexity
- Project execution:
- Lead projects from concept to completion, working with producers, creatives, editors, VFX, etc.
- Provide creative and technical feedback/direction on 3D projects in a Motion Director role
- Take on projects of your own, designing and animating in Unreal or Cinema 4D primarily using Redshift
- Concept and pitch new work to clients as part of a team
- Participate in discovery calls with clients to better understand their needs, goals, budgets, and timelines
- Creative leadership:
- Help scope and estimate incoming work accurately
- Stay on top of industry trends and develop processes and techniques to serve our clients
- Work closely with the Head of Creative and other creative leaders
- Participate in company leadership meetings and initiatives as a part of the Leads team
- Work with producers and leaders to educate them on 3D needs and workflows
- Assist with internal projects/initiatives as needed (website updates, social media, client gift, capabilities decks – that kinda stuff)
Requirements
- At least 6 years working in a commercial/creative 3D environment
- Senior-level fluency in Cinema 4D, Redshift, and Unreal is a MUST
- Experience with Houdini is a plus but not required
- Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to guide/mentor a team while maintaining morale
- Experience managing a team of direct reports
- Experience with big tech brands (Microsoft/Amazon/Google/Facebook) preferred
- Eagerness to try new shit and develop new techniques as necessary
- Ability to translate criticism and feedback from non-3D artists and provide alternate solutions
- Experience advising estimates and workback schedules
- A killer portfolio and no ego
