Director of Transportation:   Reporting to the VP of Construction the Director of Transportation will have complete oversight of the Pike delivery business unit.  The selected candidate will possess the ability to develop and maintain a strategic plan for the delivery business which aligns with corporate objectives, as well as grow key account relationships with larger fleet suppliers without disrupting the perceived value of the owner operator.  Classification:  Monthly salaried position

 

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to any and all state and federal regulations, if applicable, as set forth by the US Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), or any other regulatory agency.
  • Customer service, recruitment and retention, staffing, compliance, driver safety and productivity training, and management of the internal and external assets. 
  • Develop and execute strategic plan for transportation department
  • Manage profit and loss accountability, managing the balance sheet and budget/forecasting process for the transportation department
  • Constant communication with Dispatchers, Equipment manager, Project Managers, Plant & Crusher Managers, Paving Forepersons, Sales, schedulers, and hired haulers to identify all trucking needs.
  • Develop relationships with key vendors to grow trucking fleet
  • Manage the performance of all aspects of CRH Telematics initiative.
  • Strive to develop extensive knowledge of the selected telematics platform to use in identifying trucking inefficiencies and make the appropriate adjustments.
  • Perform training to applicable users to increase engagement and knowledge of the Telematics platform capabilities.
  • Assist with implementing initiatives to improve driver behaviors and reduce idle time.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.E. or B.S.) or plus five to ten years of construction experience with a practical knowledge of DOT, MSHA, OSHA and FMCSRA regulations.
  • Excellent computer skills including email, Internet, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Proven ability to develop relationships and effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Must display a courteous and professional attitude when dealing with co-workers and the public.
  • Extended hours with possible night and/or weekend work as well as overnights.
  • The willingness to travel to other Pike locations when needed and work extended hours with possible night and/or weekend work as well as overnights.
