POSITION SUMMARY
The RN First Assistant Intern is a Registered Nurse currently enrolled in an AORN-approved RNFA program. Under the direct supervision of the surgeon and in collaboration with the perioperative team, the RNFA Intern assists in surgical procedures while completing required clinical training for RNFA certification.
The intern will progressively develop skills in assisting with surgical tasks such as wound exposure, hemostasis, and suturing, in alignment with program objectives and institutional standards.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Licensure/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Current California Registered Nursing (RN) License required.
Current Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) certification required.
Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
Enrolled in an RNFA program that meets the AORN standards for RN First Assistant education.
Knowledge/Experience:
Minimum of two years of experience as a perioperative RN required.
Must have completed any institutional credentialing necessary to begin clinical internship duties.
Skills:
Has the physical and mental health acuity to accomplish the duties of an RNFA and able to meet the pharmacology requirements of MMC.
Strong clinical skills and knowledge of surgical procedures.
Strong foundational clinical skills and understanding of surgical procedures.
Ability to work in high-pressure situations and follow surgical directions precisely.
Physical and mental capacity to meet the demands of the internship.
Familiarity with computer applications and electronic health records (EHR).
