Intertek’s Building Science Solutions (BSS) group is primarily focused on building enclosure consulting, commissioning, and field performance testing for new construction and retrofit projects.

What are we looking for?

The Building Performance Department Manager is responsible for the execution of technical work, financial performance of the department, and growth of the business. With regional team members the Department Manager will oversee all locations but will be located in New York City. This position will travel as business needs indicate, usually up to 25% of the time will be outside the local area. 

Shift/Schedule: Monday – Friday 8AM-5PM

Salary & Benefits Information

The base wage or salary range for this position is $120,000 - $180,000. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

What you’ll do:

  • Follow and enforce safety and compliance requirements and company policies
  • Manage Building Science Solutions projects nationally with a focus on energy use, sustainability, program compliance, audits, due diligence, modeling and analysis of enclosure assemblies and fluids.
  • Drive innovation in key strategic areas including building instrumentation and benchmarking.
  • Manage direct reports within your operating unit
  • Work in conjunction with a dedicated Building Science   Business Development Manager to grow the business in the NE US market
  • Lead in regional business development, marketing, and sales efforts
  • Provide building performance investigations and assessments for existing building, and provide remedial repair designs and construction administrative services when requested
  • Assisting in meeting profit center financial goals
  • Prepare professionally written deliverables, including proposals, technical report, design reviews, etc.
  • Provide on-the-job training and mentoring
  • Assist in hiring and training new building sciences team members, and mentor existing team members
  • Grow the local BSS office by balancing staff workloads and bringing in new work such that staff are adequately utilized
  • Participation in professional organizations, author papers, attend conferences, and/or perform work on technical committees

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering or Architectural Engineering
  • 15+ years of building enclosure industry experience
  • Technical understanding of building mechanical systems and working understanding of building enclosures, building science and construction
  • Experience with managing, leading, and developing staff, both technical and administrative required
  • Experience in managing operating unit P&L's
  • Experience in managing a range of small to large projects
  • Ability to perform work from ladders, boom-lifts, scaffolds, swing stages, roofs, etc.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to meet changing and strict deadlines.
  • Consistent and professional interaction and communication with clients and project team
  • Ability to travel up to 25% outside local
