About the role

Sartorius Stedim North America is seeking a Field Application Specialist (FAS) in the Northeast or California areas (remote position). This is an exciting opportunity for a scientist who is interested in groundbreaking bioprocessing technology solutions and working directly with customers.

The role will support Cell and Gene Therapy companies, Contract Manufacturing Organizations and Biotech/Pharmaceutical Corporations in adopting products and services from the Advanced Therapy Solutions (ATS) portfolio. The FAS will be responsible for supporting and troubleshooting research and development programs to meet customers’ performance objectives.

This position requires working in close collaboration with a team of Commercial Development Managers and Sales Specialists, as well as the internal Technical Support organization. The position requires a self-starter with excellent communication and people skills, who can build and nurture successful long term customer relationships.

Main Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Conduct technical consultations with customers and propose solutions, including the development of experimental plans, for cell and gene therapy upstream processes (HEK cell culture, viral vector production)
  • Communicate effectively to identify customers “pain-points” and match these with Company solutions to create value for customers
  • Drive a culture of focused sales and support efforts, using a global clinical trial database as your roadmap
  • Train or facilitate training for customers and the sales team, both in-person and virtually.
  • Manage customer support activities daily, including reporting activities as required
  • Develop expertise by regular exchange of experiences, applications, and technology training
  • Work with the sales team to help track and report progress metrics for penetration of a customer’s drug pipeline.
  • Represent the Company and gather market intelligence at industry scientific conferences and trade shows.
  • Maintain up-to-date awareness of relevant market and technical developments.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Travel expectation around 30% (customer visits, attending conferences, etc.)

Qualification & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a life sciences discipline required.  Master’s or PhD highly preferred
  • 3+ years’ experience in one or more areas within media formulation, HEK cell culture processes and/or viral vector production
  • 5+ years’ experience in the biopharmaceutical or CGT market
  • Knowledge of bioprocessing, including scale-up of gene/cell therapies highly desirable
  • Experience with Design of Experiment (DoE) would be a plus
  • Understanding of the drug development processes

Base salary offered for the position is $100,000.00 - $150,000.00 depending on experience.
