Our Cooks at Little Chute High School play a vital role in preparing nutritious, appealing, and safe meals for students and staff, contributing directly to their health and well-being. This position requires meticulous attention to food safety standards and dietary guidelines to accommodate diverse nutritional needs. The cook in position will collaborate closely with the food service team to ensure efficient kitchen operations and timely meal service during school hours. Additionally, the role involves maintaining cleanliness and organization of the kitchen environment to comply with health regulations. Ultimately, the Cook helps create a positive dining experience that supports the educational environment by fueling students for academic success.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook meals according to established recipes and nutritional guidelines.
  • Ensure all food is stored, handled, and served in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas.
  • Assist in inventory management by receiving deliveries, checking supplies, and reporting shortages.
  • Collaborate with the food service team to plan menus and accommodate special dietary needs.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently during meal preparation.
  • Monitor portion sizes and food quality to minimize waste and ensure consistency.
  • Support the setup and cleanup of meal service areas before and after service times.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a food preparation or cooking role, preferably in a school or institutional setting.
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
  • Capability to work standing for extended periods and lift moderate weights.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ServSafe Food Handler or Manager certification.
  • Experience working with children or in an educational environment.
  • Knowledge of special dietary requirements such as allergies or cultural preferences.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic culinary training or certification.

Skills

The person in this position will utilize their culinary skills daily to prepare meals that meet nutritional and safety standards, ensuring each dish is both healthy and appealing. Attention to detail is critical when following recipes and portioning food to maintain consistency and minimize waste. Effective communication skills are important for coordinating with team members and accommodating special dietary requests. Time management and organizational skills is essential in this position to maintain a clean and efficient kitchen environment while meeting meal service deadlines. Additionally, knowledge of food safety protocols is applied continuously to protect the health of students and staff.
