Job Summary
Working under the direction of licensed personnel, assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Also assists with taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.Does this position require Patient Care? Yes
Essential Functions
- Performs patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including, but not limited to, performing and documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing and other sanitary needs of patients, transferring and assisting with ambulation of patients, 1:1 patient observation for safety purposes, and phlebotomy. Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required.
- Completes all documentation such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Assists patients with food tray setup, eating, and feeding, as needed.
- Ensures that patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately, as needs indicate and as patient volumes change.
- Retrieves equipment from other areas, sets up equipment, cleans equipment between patient use, and reports malfunctioning equipment per organizational policy.
- Assists with admitting and discharging patients.
- Facilitates orientation of new PCA team members as directed.
- Interacts with patients, visitors, and other care team members effectively
- Communicates with nursing staff effectively and in a timely manner regarding issues related to patient care and condition.
- Fosters a positive, collaborative team environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.
Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred
Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree?

Licenses and Experience
- Certification as a CNA, PCT, MA, EMT or commensurate experience required. If the state of MA is not offering CNA exams at the time of hire, documentation of successful completion of full CNA course work will suffice.
- Nursing student who has completed her/his fundamentals of nursing with a clinical component (clinical rotation or simulation lab). For nursing students hired as PCAs, strongly prefer nursing students enrolled in BSN programs or direct-entry Masters’ programs.
- Previous ESA/PCA experience preferred.
- Bi-lingual skills preferred.
- May not currently hold a valid nursing license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Strong patient/customer service skills.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
- Proficient in computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.
