The candidate will be working on the high-pressure turbine of the F135 engine. Tasks will include processing engineering changes to improve the production intent configuration, processing changes for development specific test objectives such as accommodations for required instrumentation and associated interface design coordination, and delivering development hardware to test engines which would include assessment of non-conforming hardware and potentially updates to production intent configurations based on results of these assessments.
The mechanical designer will work with the other disciplines of the Integrated Product Team (IPT) including Project, Structures, Durability, Aero-thermal, and Product Definition. The mechanical designer will also need to interface with other Hot Section Engineering IPTs as well as other departments such as Customer Technical Support, Aftermarket and Sustainment Engineering, and Product Safety, Certification and Validation & Development Operations to complete these tasks.
What You Will Do
- Resolution of mechanical engineering problems of difficult and complex scope, seeking a balanced system solution, ensuring engineering excellence, all with supervisor oversight.
- Generate development hardware design solutions that meet the objectives of the test engines and development program and facilitate the delivery of the development hardware to the test engines on schedule. Process technically sound engineering changes within program schedule that meet performance metrics such as cost, weight, and part life.
- Work with Operations and suppliers to address production issues and evaluate hardware nonconformances to facilitate the timely delivery of production hardware.
- Utilize standard work and CORE tools to continuously improve the design process.
- This position may require up to 10% travel.
What You Will Learn
- This position is a part of our Engineering Development Program (EDP). EDP participants will complete three to four rotations to build technical breadth and leadership abilities before graduating from the program.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA
Qualifications We Prefer
- Gas turbine engine experience.
- Experience with GD&T ASME Y14.5M-1994 and ASME Y14.5M-2018 and model based definition.
- Experience communicating clear and effective messages to a broad audience
- Experience collaborating with a team to develop innovative ideas
- Experience with MS Office products, Teamcenter, Unigraphics NX, ANSYS, and classical methods of analysis.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance.
