What You’ll Do
The Senior Medical Editor is responsible for providing error-free, high-quality materials in a timely manner. You will ensure that all materials convey clear and accurate messages that adhere to mandated styles, formats, and templates. In addition, you are responsible for supporting business improvement by meeting personal and department goals and objectives effectively and on time.
A Day in the Life
Deliverables
- Ensure editorial accuracy and style/format consistency across abstracts, manuscripts, presentations, slide kits, and other project- and meeting-related materials and communications at various stages of development
- Ensure that all written materials, electronic files, and slides follow client’s editorial style or the appropriate house (AMA), client, or journal style
- Under minimal supervision, act as editorial lead on one or more workstreams, tracking and managing multiple time-sensitive/deadline-driven projects
Client Responsibility
- Develop and maintain in-house style guides for individual clients
- Format content to approved template(s), as appropriate
Internal Responsibility
- Proficient in handling multiple concurrent projects and collaborating on content development and revisions to increase ease of project completion
- As needed, help verify scientific accuracy of data and referenced publications within written materials by referring to peer-reviewed journal articles/congress presentation and abstracts and data checking information against original source
- Liaise with internal team members to ensure project needs and milestones are met
Other duties may be assigned to help drive deliverables within this role.
What You Must Have
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or English (i.e., journalism/communications)
- At least 6 years of relevant professional editorial experience in medical/pharmaceutical communications
- Experience editing projects within the hematology/oncology space
Skills and Competencies
- Accuracy, attention to detail, excellent written and oral communication skills, and a high level of planning and organization; ability to multitask and follow up independently
- Excellent command of English language and grammar
- Mentoring/training of junior-level staff, as appropriate
- Thorough knowledge and application of AMA style and/or brand or journal guidelines
- Proficient with the following computer programs and systems: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe, WebEx (or other similar systems), cloud-based file servers, calendars, messaging systems, and work management tools preferred (eg, Zoom, Slack)
- In-depth adherence to Editorial review process and best practices
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate as part of a team and cross functionally
What You Might Have, but Isn’t Required
- Working knowledge of FDA requirements regarding pharmaceutical advertising
- Familiarity with medical, legal, regulatory submissions and protocols

You will work closely with the Scientific Communications team to ensure the highest standards of quality control and accuracy of internal and external materials.
