About the role

POSITION SUMMARY:  The In-Plant Industrial HazMat Operator performs duties associated with transporting hazardous and non-hazardous loads within the refinery using vehicles, machinery and at times, tankers, vac trucks, roll-offs, and tractor trailers.  The In-Plant Industrial HazMat Operator performs duties directly related to the refinery/plant’s daily operations, in-plant hauling, transport, and staging of both haz and non-haz waste and materials.  This position requires some account tracking and regular and ongoing communication with Sales, Operations, and Billing.  This position requires work both inside and outside of the vehicle in all types of conditions as well as administrative work.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Hauls and disposes of industrial fluids and by-products using various vehicles, within the facility. 
  • Operates roll offs, vacuum trucks, tankers, and tractor trailers on-site at a refinery or in-plant. 
  • Logs all detailed information into various revenue, inventory and hours trackers.
  • Logs manifests and tickets and services and reports accurately for billing purposes.
  • Communicates Haz and Non-Haz Loads to Refinery/Plant Environmental staff and maintains satisfactory customer service by maintaining radio and/or telephone contact with supervisor or on-site manager.
  • Performs safety inspections and maintains a DOT driver log and records, as required by DOT.
  • Conducts pre- and post-trip inspections of equipment, tractor trailer unit, hoses, fittings and valves.
  • Reports all safety issues, incidents and concerns to Company management and notifies supervisor of current and/or anticipated repair needs.
  • Responsible for making sure all jobs are operated in the most safe, efficient and cost-effective manner possible.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker and hazmat endorsements. (Required).
  • Minimum of 1 year experience driving heavy trucks (Required). 
  • Knowledge of equipment associated with the trucking of industrial waste.
