Summary
The Medical Laboratory Technician performs laboratory procedures accurately and efficiently, adhering to hospital and departmental policies. This role spans the Pre-Analytic, Analytic, and Post-Analytic phases of laboratory workflow and may include delegation responsibilities in the absence of supervisory staff. Compliance with CLIA standards for moderate and high complexity testing is required.
Essential Responsibilities

Perform authorized moderate/high complexity tests aligned with education and training

Follow procedures for specimen handling, processing, analysis, and result reporting

Maintain records for proficiency testing and ensure consistency with patient specimen testing

Document quality control activities, calibrations, and maintenance

Identify and address issues affecting test performance; escalate when necessary

Record corrective actions when performance specifications are not met

Produce consistently accurate work with strong attention to detail

Communicate clearly and appropriately with team members and supervisors

Work independently with sound judgment and minimal supervision

Demonstrate technical competency and apply skills effectively

Follow all safety protocols and promote a safe working environment
Education Requirements

Associate’s degree and completion of an accredited Medical Technology program (CAHEA), or
-
Associate’s degree in a lab-related science (Biology, Chemistry) with equivalent training/experience (e.g., military)
Experience & Skills
-
Minimum six months of full-time clinical lab experience (program-based experience qualifies)

Familiarity with lab equipment: centrifuge, microscope, auto analyzers, etc.

Basic computer proficiency and experience with LIS and other lab systems
