Purification Process Development (part of Sanofi R&D) is responsible for the development, scale-up, and transfer of downstream processes and their control strategies for clinical and commercial manufacturing of therapeutic proteins produced from mammalian cell lines. In addition, the department actively invests into developing and implementing new technologies related to integrated and continuous purification, high throughput process development, laboratory automation, and modeling. Ultimately our goal is to design robust processes that produce safe and effective medicines as efficiently as possible.

We are looking for candidates for the position of Senior Scientist, with a focus on laboratory automation. This individual should be able to use scientific principles and professional practices to creatively and practically solve a wide range of problems, while ensuring the highest standards of safety, environmental and regulatory compliance are maintained in the workplace.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of laboratory automation systems for the purification process development group

  • Spearhead the integration of robotics and automated liquid handling systems into purification workflows

  • Implement automated data acquisition and analysis systems for automated purification platforms

  • Maintain and improve high-throughput purification process development workflows

  • Collaborate within the function and with cross-functional teams to implement lab automation solutions

  • Develop purification process development knowledge and contribute to pipeline projects

  • Mentor junior scientists in laboratory automation techniques and applications

About You

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD. in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related fields or a M.S. with at least 4 years of relevant experience or a B.S. with at least 6 years of relevant experience

  • Relevant coursework, academic experience, or industrial experience in robotics or laboratory automation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with laboratory automation systems and robotics in a bioprocess development environment

  • Proficiency in programming languages relevant to laboratory automation (e.g., Python)

  • Experience with automated liquid handling systems (e.g. Tecan), robotics, and integration of bioprocess analytical instruments (e.g. HPLC / UPLC)

  • Knowledge of data management systems and laboratory information management systems (LIMS)

  • Ability to work as part of a diverse cross-functional team

  • High level of scientific curiosity and innovation mindset
