Salary Range: $75,000 - $80,500

Essential Job Functions:

(Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor to limit duties that might reasonably be assigned.)

  • Create instructional materials, lesson plans, presentations, practical exercises, assessments, job aids, and qualification standards.

  • Conduct classroom, laboratory, simulator, field, and on-the-job training covering both technical and non-technical maintenance programs.

  • Train employees on preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, and safe work practices.

  • Administer written, practical, and performance-based evaluations to verify competency. Support employee qualification, certification, and recertification processes.

  • Evaluate training effectiveness and continuously improve course content, delivery methods, and instructional manuals.

  • Promote compliance with agency safety policies, OSHA, DOT, and regulatory requirements. Participate in safety meetings, inspections, drills, and incident investigations.

  • Maintain training databases, attendance records, qualification histories, and Learning Management Systems (LMS). Prepare reports and metrics on program effectiveness.

  • Align training activities with internal departments (Maintenance, Operations, Safety, HR) and external vendors.

Required Knowledge and Skills Essential to Job Functions:

  • Advanced knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional methodologies, and curriculum development/evaluation techniques.

  • Strong presentation, facilitation, and coaching skills, with the ability to explain complex technical data to employees of varying experience levels.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, engineering drawings, schematics, and maintenance documentation.

  • Understanding of the operation, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of:

    • Heavy-duty diesel engines

    • Electrical diagnostics and testing procedures

    • Steering geometry, alignment principles, suspension, and ride control

    • Air brake systems, ABS, and traction control

    • Transit bus HVAC systems

  • Familiarity with OSHA, DOT, and transit agency safety regulations.

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with technicians, supervisors, vendors, and regulatory personnel.

Required Software Knowledge and Skills Essential to Job Functions:

Proficiency in using computer systems and the listed software applications associated with performance of assigned work is essential.  Basic problem-solving skills associated with software applications used is expected.   Software usage relevant to job duties will be evaluated.

Software applications: 

Advanced skills utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database software, and specialized software related to functional areas to include but not limited to: MS Windows, MS Edge, MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook), SPEAR, Trapeze EAM, PeopleSoft, Luminator, Twin Vision, Adobe Reader, WinZip, Symantec, Cummins Insite, and Allison DOC.

Safety Responsibility:

Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect oneself, fellow employees, and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures and policies. Take an active part in reporting unsafe conditions and any hazards within the workplace to their Supervisor, Manager and/or the Safety Department.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in transit vehicle maintenance, technical instruction, workforce development, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated hands-on expertise in diesel engines, electrical systems, steering/suspension, brakes, HVAC, and vehicle diagnostics.

  • Prior experience developing and delivering formal technical training programs.

  • First Aid/CPR certification preferred.

Training and/or Education:

Knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature, which may be obtained with a two (2) year Associate degree, diploma or equivalent from an accredited college, technical business, vocational, or correspondence school in Automotive or Electric vehicle maintenance field.<
