What you'll do...

The Data Scientist – Machine Learning Engineer will be responsible for developing and deploying applied machine learning models that improve member engagement and enhance discovery experiences across Sam’s Club’s digital and physical touchpoints. You’ll work alongside a talented team of Scientists and Engineers to design scalable ML solutions for Search, Ranking, and Personalization, using modern data pipelines and advanced modeling techniques.

You’ll contribute to the full ML lifecycle — from data preparation and feature engineering to model training, evaluation, and deployment — helping transform data into actionable intelligence that powers smarter recommendations and seamless member experiences.

You’ll make an impact by…

• Designing, training, and evaluating ML models that drive personalization and discovery.
• Working closely with Data Engineers to operationalize and scale models in production.
• Supporting A/B testing and experimentation to measure and optimize model impact.
• Collaborating with Product and Engineering teams to define data and model requirements.
• Learning and applying emerging AI techniques to continuously improve member experiences.

What you'll bring:
You’ll sweep us off our feet if…

• You have 2+ years of experience in applied machine learning, data science, or AI systems development.
• Strong foundation in algorithms such as Collaborative Filtering, Matrix Factorization, or Deep Learning.
• Proficient in Python and familiar with ML frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn.
• Experience with cloud platforms (GCP, Azure, or AWS) and basic MLOps concepts.
• Knowledge of information retrieval, ranking, or recommendation systems is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and data storytelling skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in computer science, statistics, or applied mathematics.
• Familiarity with big data tools such as Spark or BigQuery.
• Exposure to Gen AI or Agentic AI concepts.
• Understanding of APIs and cloud-based deployment workflows.
