Position: NAS - Engineer
Position Synopsis: Successful candidate will demonstrate use of independent judgment in performing calculations and/or designs. Individuals will possess superior technical knowledge of nuclear and mechanical disciplines or software engineering. Successful candidates will have the ability to work on cross-disciplined teams with other engineers to evaluate conditions and develop analyses to evaluate plant performance, safety, and reliability. Individuals must have the ability to interface and work with vendors, including hardware and software vendors, as needed.
Must be familiar with codes and standards applicable to the nuclear power industry as well as possess working knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations (including the NRC, DOE, etc.). Reasonable client interface/communication skills and understanding of the roles of other disciplines, as well as ability to coordinate and interface with other disciplines, are a must.
Potential Technical Tasks: Throughout the time in this position, the following tasks may be performed:
- Applies broad knowledge of principles and practices in a specific practice area.
- Evaluates, selects, and adapts standard techniques, procedures, and criteria with reduced oversight.
- Acquires general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields, and ability to function on multidisciplinary teams.
- Works on projects of moderate size or portions of major projects.
- Manages own time effectively, maintains control over all current projects/responsibilities.
- Follows up on all relevant issues.
- Independently develops and reviews more complex computer models/analyses (Thermal-Hydraulic and/or Radiological) in one application area and develops models/analyses in additional application areas with a mentor.
- Prepares complete project documents in areas of skill.
- Formulates and solves problems utilizing independent study and problem-solving skills.
And/Or
- Software development.
- Software verification and validation.
- Tests and reviews software.
- Documents code per company standards.
- Quickly learn new programming languages.
Managerial Responsibilities: Directly assists the lead in administration of the assignment or may serve as lead on appropriate sized project. Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of their engineering work. May coordinate work with new entry-level staff. Provides input to budget and schedule.
Professional Activities: Member of industry organization preferred, leadership role or committee participation encouraged; technical presentations/publications support.
Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (nuclear, mechanical, or chemical) or an appropriate mathematical methods or science (e.g., computer science, physics) from an ABET/EAC accredited program.
Experience Required: Three (3) years of experience minimum, including credit for advanced engineering and science degrees, with at least two (2) of those years in the nuclear, chemical, petrochemical or sustainability (e.g., carbon capture, hydrogen, ammonia, energy storage) industries. Experience in the analysis, design and/or operation of PWR, BWR and/or advanced plant designs is required. Experience with thermal-hydraulic computer code analysis of systems is required. Experience in reviewing and checking analyses prepared by other engineers is required.
Individuals who are additionally involved with software development must have experience in the design and development of complex computer software. Individuals will demonstrate knowledge of computer languages, data structures, and software design methods and techniques. Additionally, experience in code walkthroughs and review is required.
Other Qualifications: All applicants must possess good oral and written communication skills as well as presentation skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required. Effective time management skills are required as position may involve working on several projects concurrently. Ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access is required. Successful candidates will be required to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes. Overtime work is required at times. Travel is required to client sites with occasional periods of field/office work. Ability to perform walk downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, to include climbing ladders, accessing security-controlled areas, and entering confined spaces and controlled hazardous areas is required.
