The Director of Library Services will provide overall leadership and management of resources that will result in a library of the highest quality. The Director will be able to anticipate and deal positively with changes that come in higher education, scholarly communication, curriculum, and facilities. Staff selection and supervision is critical. Must be able to work onsite at the DIU Library located in Dallas, Texas.Responsibilities
- Provide visible, onsite, visionary leadership for the library’s operations in support of the University’s mission and goals, while maintaining a high level of customer service with services that are accessible to all library patrons.
- Conduct ongoing review and evaluation of library services, resources, and programs to ensure continued alignment to the academic needs and expectations of the University.
- Provide leadership in collection development by remaining informed of decisions regarding academic programs, and by maintaining positive working relationships with all library stakeholders including academic deans, faculty, staff, students, and DIU community members.
- Select and supervise the library staff; ensuring a collaborative, positive work environment is maintained at all times.
- Provide instruction in information literacy in a variety of formats and venues.
- Prepare and oversee an annual budget to ensure quality and integrity of financial processes.
- Provide direct assistance in all library service areas as needed, including reference assistance, circulation, and cataloging.
- Develop and communicate appropriate policies and procedures for library operations.
- Maintain and report on annual usage statistics; analyze statistical data for usage trends; conduct needs assessments based on qualitative and quantitative data.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited school required.
- A minimum of two years of professional library experience, preferably in an academic or mission setting. Supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience in managing operational budget and effective stewardship of resources.
- Strong written, collaborative, and oral communication skill
- Experience in meeting the needs of diverse stakeholders, including distance learners.
- Ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of library program and service trends that support academic student success.
- Familiarity with current and emerging technologies in the field of library services.
- Proficiency in the use of the SpringShare LibGuides platform and Follett library catalog preferred.
Hours
- Part-time, 20 hours per week. Daytime library hours are 9-5, Monday through Friday.
- Available after hours, due to the flexible and responsive nature of this position, for student worker supervision in emergency situations or matters that arise.
Physical Requirements
Requires moderate physical effort and the ability to comfortably lift up to 15 pounds. Must be available to work onsite in Dallas, Texas.
