Public Works Stormwater Operations is seeking a Stormwater Maintenance Supervisor – Ponds & Drainage to lead a dedicated Permitted facilities pond team. 

 

This position involves overseeing daily operations at permitted facilities, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and managing a team of crew members engaged in the maintenance, Structure repairs, and maintenance of Pinellas County's stormwater ponds, and drainage ditches. The incumbent operates complex heavy construction equipment, including skid steers, hydraulic excavators, and track hoes with specialized attachments, while maintaining a safe work environment and complying with all organizational policies, safety regulations, and industry standards. 

 

What Would You Do?

  • Lead and supervise a crew of workers in the daily activities of the permitted facilities.
  • Operate complex heavy construction equipment, including Gradalls, hydraulic excavators, tankers, track-hoes, and rubber tire backhoes.
  • Review construction plans and manage construction activities in accordance with specifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of crew activities, safety incidents, performance reviews and regulatory compliance documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to facility operations and stormwater management.
  • Schedule and delegate tasks to crew members, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in operations.
  • Monitor and evaluate crew performance, providing guidance, training, and support as needed.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions to promote a culture of safety among crew members.
  • Determine direction of water flow, functionality, and investigation to resolve drainage problems.
  • Performs related work as assigned or required.

 

 What Do You Need To Have?

Experience: Public Works (maintenance, construction or repair work experience specializing in Right-of-Way Drainage or Stormwater facility maintenance), utilities, general construction, maintenance, construction or repair work that includes lead worker, supervision or supervisory training.

  • Three (3) years of experience as described above, OR; 

  • Associate's or higher-level degree at least  one (1) year of experience as described above, OR;

  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience in a lead role within a permitted facility or similar environment, particularly in Public Works, maintenance, construction, or repairs specializing in stormwater.

  • Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance standards, safety protocols, and operational procedures. 

  • Leadership qualities to provide managerial and technical guidance to staff.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. 

  • Current Florida Commercial Driver's License Class B and any necessary endorsements.

Highly Desirable 

  • Florida Department of transportation temporary traffic control (TTC).

  • Florida Commercial Driver’s License “A” Preferred.
