Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Architectural Intern to be based in either the Washington DC or Arlington, VA office.

This position is expected to begin in May 2025.

Internships at AECOM offer students in undergraduate and graduate programs the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in engineering, design, and infrastructure projects that make a real-world impact. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the preparation of designs, quantity calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings.
  • Use computer software as a tool for solving basic architectural problems.
  • Maintain conformance with building standards, established architectural practices, and applicable building codes.
  • Work under the supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
  • Must be proficient in all the latest architectural and graphic design software platforms.
  • Participate in site visits and field measurements to gather data for project development.
  • Assist in the development of project presentations and client proposals.
  • Conduct research on building materials, products, and innovative design solutions.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including engineers and contractors, to ensure project coordination.
  • Assist in the preparation of construction documents and specifications.
  • Support the development of sustainable design strategies and LEED documentation.
  • Participate in design charrettes and brainstorming sessions to contribute creative ideas.
  • Assist in the creation of 3D models and renderings for project visualization.
  • Help maintain project files and documentation in accordance with office standards.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings and design reviews.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, or a related field and must have completed at least one years of study. Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions.  Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with BIM-Revit, AutoCAD, or other related CADD software.
  • Experience in the use of computers for making architectural drawings, calculations, and 3-D visual simulations.
  • A university student who has more than one year of school remaining before earning a degree is preferred, these students typically are Freshmen, Sophomores, or Juniors in university
  • Successful Interns may be eligible to return for additional internships
  • An ability to work collaboratively as a team player with both junior staff and senior leadership.
