Owning the higher level of systems engineering, this team is responsible for establishing effective and constructive bridges between the Cruise top level stakeholders. As a staff engineer in the fault management team, you will be working on requirements development, validation, and verification efforts. You will also share in the team’s impact on all aspects of systems engineering. You will collaborate closely with Product Managers, Program Managers, Hardware and Software Engineers, and Systems Engineers to drive success toward the major initiatives at Cruise.
What you’ll be doing:
Create a strategy for fault management architecture, including design principles and requirements.
Define redundancy architecture for autonomous vehicle systems.
Plan and implement integrated system Fault Management and Autonomy Verification and Validation programs.
Lead trade off and architecture discussions at all levels of requirements management
Translate the product vision into a set of high level requirements inclusive of the Operational Design Domain (ODD), functions, performance requirements, and features
Perform analysis to derive technical program requirements to meet business objectives
Develop incremental system capabilities towards program milestones
Contribute to reviews to communicate major results and decisions: design reviews, verification strategy, launch readiness reviews
What you must have:
BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or another related field
7+ years of postgraduate experience in systems engineering, robotics, or other related fields
Demonstrated experience with fault-tolerance strategies and architectures for safety and mission-critical systems
Knowledge of requirements management tools (e.g. Jama, DNG, DOORS)
Ability to understand complex technical systems
Ability to adapt and operate under ambiguity
Prioritize while maintaining the tasks at hand
Strong technical and nontechnical communication skills across a diverse set of stakeholders
Ability to identify and act on opportunities to improve processes and increase efficiency

Proven track record of successful systems engineering for a safety-critical product
Experience with autonomous vehicles
Experience building and scaling systems engineering processes and tools across multiple programs
The salary range for this position is $170,000 - 250,000. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a bonus, restricted stock units, and benefits. These ranges are subject to change.
