Director, Middle Office - Securities & Account Reference Data

The Director, Middle Office - Securities and Account Reference Data manages a team that oversees the setup of reference data for the securities and accounts for the firm. This team expertly sets up all attributes of underlying security instruments (i.e. stocks, bonds, derivatives, etc). This position will be a member of the Global Investment Operations Middle Office Leadership Team and will work closely with the Investment Staff, Trading, and Data Management. This position will drive the strategic security reference data solutions partnering with technology, Investments, partner support areas and external service providers.
Role Summary:
Serves as a subject matter expert for reference data, both securities and accounts. Anticipates, identifies, and implements enhancements to the firms processes for efficient and well controlled processes, including our outsourced providers. Works independently with direct accountability for a set of complex processes and would allocate or coordinate work within team.
Responsibilities:
- Influences leaders to set new protocols and policies to administer a broad range of solutions, leveraging specialized expertise to ensure proper controls and validations are in place and that activities are accurate and compliant. Leads across teams in identification of quality, accuracy, or compliance deficiencies and corrects; may serve as a final reviewer for complex reconciliations. Trains less experienced peers and support staff on preventing errors and interpreting process controls. Develops, with leadership, implementation plan, refined operating processes and controls.
- Influences control standards across the management team. Fosters the relationship across Global Investment Operations, relationship managers, portfolio managers, custodians, and clients to ensure the collection, analysis, and communication of information that impacts accounts. Identifies, develops, drives, and implements strategy for risk measurement, risk reduction, and process improvement. Drives accountability and ownership within the leadership team to manage complex queries from internal or external clients and follows through to resolution.
- Creates standardization for highly complex client or product requirements. Guides leaders on problem solving by critically questioning and analyzing practices that impact adjustments needed to internal and external books and records and performs a final quality review, confirming resolution. Monitors risk and acts as subject matter expert when building end-state infrastructure of outsourced providers for key and high-profile accounts.
- Influences changes to maintain a competitive edge in the industry and to manage risk to the firm. Establishes controls, checks and validates third-party reconciliations; provides direct feedback to third-party providers on their performance and quality, responsible for resolution. Leads partnership with clients and internal stakeholders to prepare account outsourcing plans; stewards account transition process to the end-state infrastructure of outsourced providers that will have impact across clients and internal stakeholders.
- Creates periodic report templates and dashboards outlining relevant operational metrics like error or recalculation rates, client satisfaction, responsiveness, time to resolution, etc. Provides analysis of metrics and develop recommendations to address deficiencies. Collaborates with management to prepare and implement solutions.
- Builds scalable solutions to automate processes.
Typical Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience AND
- 10+ years of total relevant work experience
- Deep security reference knowledge and the supporting processes/controls
Preferred Qualifications:
- Industry experience within Investment or Asset Management firm
- Solid understanding of complex securities and securities attributes
- Subject matter expert regarding individual securities instruments (i.e. stocks, bonds, derivatives, etc)
- Experienced with Bloomberg securities attributes and security master data across a range of asset classes (i.e. equities, fixed income, derivatives, etc)
- 5+ years of People management experience
FINRA Requirements: FINRA licenses are not required and will not be supported for this role.
Work Flexibility: This role is eligible for remote work up to two days a week.
