About You
The Senior Manager, Research Partnerships will lead the Research Partnerships team in developing and sustaining research collaborations aligned with RMIT’s Knowledge with Action Strategy. This pivotal role represents the University's multidisciplinary research capabilities to industry, government, and community partners.

Collaborating closely with the Research and Innovation Senior Leadership Team, Colleges, and Portfolios, this role will develop and implement partnership engagement strategies that align RMIT’s strengths with the Australian research funding landscape and policy environment. The Senior Manager will drive growth in RMIT’s research partnership portfolio by fostering long-term relationships and strategic collaborations across the University.

Key responsibilities include managing partnership pipelines, identifying opportunities for collaborative research initiatives, and ensuring alignment with Category 1-4 Income opportunities. The role will also work strategically with internal teams across IP & Commercialisation, Major Research Initiatives, and Research Proposals to position RMIT’s research capabilities within broader translational initiatives, contributing to a cohesive university proposition for government and industry partners.

To be successful in this position, you’ll have as a minimum:

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively develop, lead, energise, motivate, and coordinate a team to deliver a high level of service, and achieve enterprise targets, in a research environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage and form effective working relationships and drive results with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Extensive experience in brokering research collaborations and partnerships across a range of disciplines and activities.
  • Expert judgment, innovative, and flexibility to interpret and apply policies, provide strategic advice, and work collaboratively with colleagues to solve complex problems and ensure successful outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing reports, high quality correspondence, business cases, briefings, quality assurance of CRM data entry and reporting.
  • Substantial experience in the successful development and maintenance of corporate networks and relationships both national and international.
  • Exceptional negotiation, influencing and communication skills with proven ability to convert pipeline opportunities into research projects.
  • Experience in project budget development and operational budget management.
