POSITION SUMMARY: 

Supports the work of Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Builds members’ and the community’s understanding of the YMCA’s cause and impact. Creates a safe, enjoyable, culturally aware, and positive environment that promotes wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures with advocacy for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)  


Provides quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring while using a DEI lens.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Assists with implementing curriculum within the established guidelines.  
  2. Assists with supervising the children, classroom, and all activities.   
  3. Maintains program site and equipment.  
  4. Assists with maintaining required program records.  
  5. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training (18 hours per year)   
  6. Builds personal and meaningful relationships with YMCA members, participants, volunteers, and guests. While exemplifying the Y’s commitment to DEI and the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect & responsibility and responds to all member and community inquiries in a timely manner. 
  7. Performs other duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. High School Diploma   
  2. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days (about 4 and a half weeks) of hire date.  
  3. Health form completed within the 30 days (about 4 and a half weeks) of hire date; renewed every 3 years.  
  4. A desire to work with children in a developmental setting. 

PREFERED LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS: 

Meets 80% to 100% of the following qualifications: 

  1. 3 + year experience working with children.  
  2. Ability to perform duties with professionalism, enthusiasm, kindness, empathy, care, honesty, and respect. 
  3. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. 
  4. A certificate in DEI or extensive training and work experience.
