Research Assistant/Data manager

• Full-time, 12-month fixed term, with possible extension

About the opportunity

The Matilda Centre for Research in Mental Health and Substance Use provides a world-first synergy of leading epidemiological, prevention, early intervention, and treatment research and translation programs in substance use and mental disorders. The Matilda Centre brings together researchers in broad fields to share skills, integrate data, and harness new technologies to shed light on the nature and understanding of substance use and mental disorders as well as develop and trial innovative prevention, early intervention, and treatment programs.

We are seeking a Research Assistant to assist the Matilda Centre with statistical analyses and data management . In this role, you will work closely with many project groups across the Centre, assisting with all aspects of data analysis and management including data visualisation and reporting. This position will involve working with external organization and data custodians such as the Australian Bureau of Statistics. As part of this position, you will be provided with the opportunity to make use of your exceptional communication and organisational skills to balance conflicting requests and manage priorities whilst working with diverse and varied groups of people both within and outside the University of Sydney.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• Work alongside multiple project teams in the Matilda Centre , managing and facilitating access to internal and publicly available datasets
• conduct and complete various analyses to transform data into practical and viable information
• create and maintain a strong relationship between the project teams and external data custodians
• make use of your broad statistical knowledge to assist and advise undergrad students and staff with Statistical Drop-Ins
• maintain confidentiality and privacy constraints within your work at all times

About you

• Honours or working towards a Masters tertiary qualification in a relevant field, such as psychology, public health, biostatistics, mental health and addiction
• strong experience in statistical applications including SPSS and R
• high levels of computer literacy, with proven experience with the Microsoft Suite including Excel
• sophisticated and extensive communication skills with a high level of tact when dealing with internal and external stakeholders
• profound organisational skills with the ability to work towards conflicting deadlines and priorities
• ability to work independently and autonomously as well as in a team environment as needed.
