Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Entry Level Environmental Scientist in our Grand Rapids, Michigan office to assist with a variety of tasks on projects including data management, site investigation, and remediation.

This position is expected to begin in October 2024.

The successful candidate will assist with gathering and analyzing geological, hydrogeological, and geochemical data in both the field and office settings.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

• The field activities will consist of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air and soil vapor sample collection, geological logging and interpretation, and the oversight of subcontractors including laboratories and excavation and drilling companies.
• Field work will be required, and it will include travel that requires overnight stays near project locations.
• The office activities will involve preparation of investigation reports.
• Candidate must also be able to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors.
• Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Biology or Environmental Science.
• Due to the nature of work, US citizenship is required.
• Valid U.S. Driver’s License is required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. 
• As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review and a substance abuse test.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to demonstrate a primary technical role in multiple site characterizations, subsurface investigations, and remediation projects at various client sites.
• Understand and assist with the development of conceptual site models.
• Ability to collect and evaluate environmental data in the field and interpret data in an office setting.
• Ability to prepare investigation reports and help coordinate preparation of drawings.
• Possess technical report writing skills.
• Provide independent leadership of self and teams in the field.
• Demonstrate experience in contractor oversight.
• Possess a keen understanding of hazard recognition during environmental investigations and remediation projects.
• Proficient with basic computer programs and the MS Office suite.

Additional Information

• Relocation assistance and/or per diem is not offered for this position.
• Daily travel to job sites will be required for up to 90% of the work performed. Overnight travel to jobsites within Michigan and the U.S. will be required for up to 75% of the work performed.
• Selected candidate will be required to complete 40-hour HAZWOPER training or annual refresher class, unless previously completed by the candidate.
• Selected candidate will also receive First Aid/CPR training and AECOM specific training.
• Candidate will submit to medical surveillance screening upon hire.
