Veterinary Medicine | Instructional SupportThe College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Manager of Operations and Organization to support the Clinical Skills Center. This role is responsible for the management of personnel, operations, and physical environments that support hands-on clinical skills training across the veterinary curriculum. The position ensures that laboratories and assessments are fully staffed, equipped, compliant, and operationally ready.
This role collaborates closely with the Director of Clinical Skills to align day-to-day operations with educational goals, while independently managing staffing, workflow, resources, and facilities. The position reports to the Associate Dean for Education and Student Success and requires some instructional lab support regarding set-up, teaching, and assessment as needed depending on specific times of year and colleague schedules, but at least 50% of the successful candidate’s time will be reserved for managerial duties.
In addition to operational leadership, the individual contributes directly to laboratory setup and instruction alongside the Clinical Skills technician team.
The Clinical Skills program delivers core and elective hands-on training within the Competency-Based Veterinary Education (CBVE 2.0®) curriculum. Housed in a 9,000-square-foot Clinical Skills Center and supported by affiliated sites across OSU campuses, the program is internationally recognized for its model-based training approach. Students practice and develop skills on models before progressing to live animals, in alignment with AAVMC Animal Use Guidelines.
The program is committed to preparing students to be day-one-ready veterinarians, with all live animal procedures limited to those that are minimally invasive or medically necessary. The Manager joins a collaborative team of Instructional Lab Specialists and faculty leadership to support and continuously improve this innovative and high-impact educational program.
Key Responsibilities:
Typical duties include supervision of veterinary technician staff, including hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management; overseeing daily operations of the Clinical Skills Center and ensure readiness for instructional activities; assigning tasks to coordinate laboratory logistics, including equipment management, supply ordering, and on- and off-site live animal use; developing and implementing standard operating procedures and workflows; Managing inventory, purchasing, and vendor relationships within established guidelines; Monitoring operational spending and provide input for budget planning; coordinate lab scheduling, space utilization, and support of clinical skills assessments (including OSCEs); contribute directly to laboratory set-up and instructional activities including teaching and assessment.
