SUMMARY
This supervisory position is responsible for coordinating, overseeing, and inspecting traffic control work related to the installation, routine maintenance, and repairs of construction elements and detector loops. The role involves leading a crew with continuous on-site supervision, providing regular feedback to ensure work is performed accurately and efficiently, and the ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative within established procedures and practices.Duties include oversight of tasks such as the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal ground construction, underground piping, concrete bases for controller boxes, pedestrian signal bases, underground pull boxes, and loop detectors.
Responsibilities:
1. Ensure all crew tasks are completed accurately and efficiently. Take initiative and corrective action to address issues as they arise.
2. Complete and manage required documentation, including daily work logs, maintenance and inventory forms, vehicle inspection reports, and other related records.
3. Safely operate a variety of tools and equipment used in traffic operations, such as dump trucks, cranes, trenchers/backhoes, pneumatic drills and jackhammers, core drills, loop saws, concrete saws, and specialized paint equipment.
4. Evaluate and improve crew performance by providing regular feedback, coaching, and counseling.
5. Demonstrate effective leadership by modeling behaviors to foster a positive and productive team environment.
6. Represent the crew in meetings such as safety tailgates, pre-construction briefings, and field coordination meetings.
7. Promote and enforce safe work practices by adhering to procedures, using required personal protective equipment (PPE), and identifying and reporting hazards.
8. Direct and participate in the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic control systems, including construction zones and loop installations.
9. Ensure the proper use of temporary traffic control measures – cones, signs, and other equipment according to the CDOT WATCH Handbook, MUTCD, and 811 locate procedures.
10. Load, unload, and manage materials, tools, and equipment necessary for daily operations.
11. Read and apply engineering plans and work orders to ensure proper placement and construction of traffic control devices.
12. Serve as the first point of contact for emergency calls. Assess situations and take appropriate action following established protocols.
13. Maintain effective and professional interactions with coworkers, other departments, and the public.
14. Carry out additional tasks as needed to support overall operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
A minimum of 5 years of related work experience is required.
Class A CDL
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with work hazards, work zones, safety precautions, 811 Locates procedures, OSHA regulations, ground construction, specialized equipment and hand tools, traffic signal control, wires, communication, reading and interpreting plans, and traffic systems.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Ability to read and write, including signal plans.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems related to the installation, repair, and maintenance of traffic control devices with limited supervision from the Field Operations Supervisor.
