About the role

DUTIES

 

  •   Communicates with all staff regarding patient status in a positive and professional manner.
  •   Greets patients warmly and assists at the check-in and check-out window.
  •   Schedules appointments and documents in the EMR system; schedules referrals and obtains authorizations as applicable.
  •   Verifies insurance eligibility, enters patient demographics, collects co-payments and balances at time of service, and scans or copies patient identification and insurance cards.
  •   Answers telephone calls promptly and pleasantly within three rings, accurately documents messages, triages calls, and responds to patients, insurance companies, and staff with courtesy and a focus on effective resolution.
  •   Balances daily cash to encounters, completes deposits in a timely manner, and maintains petty cash.
  •   Prepares patient charts to ensure all required forms are present; processes record requests and manages filing and scanning in a timely manner.
  •   Maintains a clean and organized front office workspace and waiting area.
  •   Picks up and distributes mail and orders office supplies as needed.
  •   Relays messages and prescriptions to providers as directed.
  •   Assists with patient satisfaction surveys and completes any required monthly reports on time.
  •   Maintains general knowledge of insurance coverage including Medicaid, Blue Shield, and commercial insurances.
  •   Utilizes Meditech, Medisoft, Medisoft Clinical, or other designated EMR systems; proficiency in Microsoft Word required.
  •   Follows the appropriate chain of command when reporting grievances, patient complaints, or staff concerns.
  •   Answers the Physician Referral Line promptly, provides accurate information, and maintains the referral line as applicable.
  •   Stays current on office communications including memos and notices.
  •   Offers assistance to other staff when able and projects a positive image of the practice at all times.
  •   Performs other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  •   High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training in Medical Terminology preferred.
  •   Strong  computer proficiency.
  •   Ability to prioritize, organize workload, and problem-solve effectively.
  •   Above-average verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally by phone and in person.
  •   Ability to remain calm and professional when working with anxious or upset patients.
  •   Ability to communicate respectfully and tactfully with administrative staff, managers, physicians, and all hospital personnel.
