DIRECTOR, PRISON GRADUATION INITIATIVE 

 

California State University, Los Angeles, invites applications for the above Administrator III position.

The Position: The Director is for the administrative and fiscal management of the Prison Graduation Initiative (PGI) as well as long-term, middle-range, and short-term planning associated with its vision and mission. The Director provides strategic leadership across all PGI activities, including cultivating and building partnerships with community stakeholders, nonprofits, and institutions at the local, regional, and national levels. The Director will collaborate with university stakeholders to develop a clear vision for the sustainability and growth of the PGI. Reporting to the Provost in Academic Affairs, the Director will help redefine a clear mission for the program, create clear sustainable processes for how the program functions within the university, CDCR and the community, be an advocate for PGI in the state and regional prison education landscape, be a: spokesperson for PGI, and assist with development efforts. They will provide leadership and vision for the program staff, students, and faculty who teach in the program, as well as nurture and strengthen key external and internal partnerships for PGI, including with the California Department of Corrections, prison facilities staff, California Community Colleges, WASCUC, PGI Advisory Committee, other University Offices, and Academic Affairs. They will be involved in faculty and student recruitment, grant writing, overseeing the prison bachelor's degree programs, and ensuring compliance with all WASC accreditation standards.

Required Qualifications & Experience: An advanced degree from an accredited four-year college or university. At least 3 years of experience working in carceral education. Demonstrated experience successfully leading and supporting a diverse project team to meet its goals in a collaborative and timely manner. The incumbent must have supervisory experience. The incumbent must also have excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills necessary to interact and lead a team of key senior management, faculty, and administrators. The incumbent must have the ability to design, implement and evaluate effective organizational plans; excellent judgment and ability to problem solve and handle complex situations with tact and professionalism, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment; and must have a commitment to student success. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the California State University. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current California State University employees who may apply for the position.
