The Collaboration Products team is responsible for managing the tech stack and ecosystem of our core collaboration technologies for Airbnb employees across the globe. Our mission is to deliver a streamlined, cloud-based tech stack that enables our collaboration capabilities for Airbnb teams so that we can collaborate on shared goals effectively, as we live and work anywhere in the world. Our team owns four technology categories: Project and Portfolio Management, Service Management, Visualization Applications and Connection Applications.

The Senior Systems Engineer for Collaboration Products will serve as the bridge between our current tooling landscape and the future of innovation, specifically within our Slack ecosystem. A successful Senior Systems Engineer will utilize their hands-on technical skills and SaaS expertise to empower, optimize, and scale our collaboration tech stack, particularly emphasizing Slack features, integrations, and workflows. Your experience in architecting and executing complex migrations from on-premise solutions to cloud environments will significantly accelerate our journey toward becoming a fully cloud-native organization. To accomplish this, the Senior Engineer will possess natural curiosity, exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, and effective collaboration and communication capabilities to build strong relationships across BizTech, Security, Procurement, business stakeholders, and external vendors.
A Typical Day:
- Designing, developing, and optimizing Slack integrations, workflows, and apps to enhance internal collaboration efficiency and user experience.
- Developing custom scripts or leveraging third-party solutions to move data between collaboration tools such as Slack, Asana, Airtable, Jira Cloud, and Salesforce.
- Reviewing and optimizing existing scripts and integrations for performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Collaborating closely with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to gather requirements, troubleshoot issues, and deliver clear documentation on processes and outcomes.
- Conducting regular assessments to ensure collaboration tools and integrations comply with information security and governance best practices.
- Leading complex migrations from on-premise data center tools to modern cloud solutions.
- Providing mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
- Staying current with the latest industry trends, especially related to Slack, cloud technologies, and security standards.
Your Expertise:
- 5+ years as an in-house or consulting Engineer in an enterprise cloud environment.
- 5+ years as an engineer with significant experience migrating on-premise tools to cloud platforms, including data transfers, pipeline creation, automation scripts, and scheduling tasks (cron jobs).
- Deep expertise and a minimum of 3+ years of hands-on experience managing, administering, and optimizing Slack, including building integrations, bots, workflows, and apps.
- Hands-on coding, automation, and scripting experience with JSON, REST APIs, Java, Groovy, Python, and similar technologies; familiarity with integration platforms such as Mulesoft or Tray.io is a plus.
- Demonstrated success in designing and implementing integrations across a cloud-based collaboration tech ecosystem that includes Slack, Atlassian Jira, Asana, Airtable, Moveworks, Miro, Zoom, and other SaaS applications.
- Extensive hands-on experience migrating enterprise applications from on-premise environments to cloud-based platforms; bonus points for direct experience architecting these migrations.
- An ability to rapidly adapt to new technologies and tools.
- Knowledge and understanding of AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, EC2, Load Balancers, ECR, EKS, etc.).
- Proven capability to lead and execute projects from inception through to successful delivery.
- Solid understanding of system architecture, data modeling, and integration frameworks.
- Demonstrated knowledge of security and governance frameworks and best practices to ensure secure and compliant cloud solutions.
